scrappin' Girlfriends

~It Must Of Been Good~

Pumpkin Harvest Cake

6 Eggs

2 2/3 c. Sugar

1 1/2 c. Oil

30 oz. can Pumpkin

3 c. Flour

3tsp. Cinnamon

2tsp. Cloves

2tsp. Nutmeg

1 1/2tsp. Baking Soda

3tsp. Baking Powder

1 1/2tsp. Salt

Beat together eggs, sugar, oil and pumpkin mixing well. Sift together dry ingredients. Add flour mixture to pumpkin mixing well. Spread into ungreased jelly roll pan and bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. When cake is cool top with delicious Harvest frosting:

1-8oz. Cream Cheese

1 cup Butter

2tsp. Vanilla

4 cups Powder Sugar

Cream together cream cheese, butter and vanilla. Add powdered sugar 1 cup at a time. Mix well. Add food color and sprinkles or harvest candy to top of cake if desired!!

Melissa had a wonderful entry but she was not the only one!  We loved every single one and because we could not fail to recognize each of our entries we have decided to reward all the gals who submitted with gift certificates to the shop.  Stop by soon and pick up your scrappin' Girlfriends gift certificate! If you are donating your bra to the Magic Valley Arts Council to be auctioned off to raise money for Breast Cancer Research we will be taking care of getting it to the right person - if you want to keep your creation please pick it up when you pick up your prize!

This year of all years this has special meaning to me.  It has only been a few months since my bonus mom succumbed to this horrible disease.  I loved her so very much and miss her terribly.  As our family approaches our first holiday season without her with us I am more urgently moved to help find a cure so this never happens again in our family or in yours.  Thank you all once again for your selfless contributions.  It is good to have GIRLFRIENDS!

The Pierce children looked absolutely perfect yesterday when they popped by downtown to show off their Halloween Costumes!

We are looking forward to Halloween and all the fun today.  There will be lots of kids dressed up and looking for sweet treats on the streets all day so be careful as you drive around Twin Falls and while you are out and about stop by the shop and see all the new, much anticipated product that has arrived.

Just when I think there is nothing more I can fit into a week I get really busy and add a new blog to my list of responsibilities!

To tell the truth I have wanted to have a girlfriends blog that is especailly designed to give tips, instruction and inspiration for the creative soul.  Now I am doing just that.  Lisa is going to be involved as well but since I did this without really discussing it with her I will let her become involved as she want to.

happy birthday {lisa}

Yesterday was a special day at Girlfriends.  It was Lisa's birthday!

We had our Halloween Book Workshop and a party!

The morning started earlier than usual.  I had some errands to run.  I needed to pick up balloons (pink, black and white of course) decorate a little and grab a bagel to hold me over for breakfast.

I got to the shop and Joan was there already so I put her to work!  She hung the crepe paper while I put balloons on the parking meters, inside the shop and put the appropriate greeting on the chalk board outside!  I then got the tables ready for class.  All this time Lisa was helping set up the Planet Cheer Holiday Open House.  She got to the shop just in time for us to wish her a very Happy Birthday.  I got a few snappies of the day but I missed the most important picture and I could just cry.  Jeni B. brought her grandma to see Lisa.  Mrs. Bates was Lisa's day care provider at Little Bo Peep Day Care when she was little.  It was piceless to see Lisa's reaction.  I will have that memory forever!

Recently a very ungallent competitor called Lisa and me "those scrappin' b****es".

We beg to differ!  We think of ourselves as scrappin' witches - brewing up all kinds of magical spells for fun and whimsey during these beautiful fall days!

This weekend I will be teaching on Saturday...that little Halloween Book I promised, of course!

Last Saturday Lisa taught her {beWiTchInG} Halloween Picket Houses.  It was such a fun workshop....loads of laughter and creativity.  I might be wrong but I think I heard Stacy casting a little spell or two to make the class last longer because no one seemed in a hurry to leave!

And let's not forget all the other little bits of magic in the air....

We also brewed a little halloween fun for you on October 31st!  

We are {summoning} our girlfriends to an open workshop on the 31st.  That means all you have to do is work a little magic of your own and take a little time for yourself to come in Saturday the 31st between 10 and 6 and make your own

MAGNETIC CHRISTMAS ADVENT TREE.

We will have enough kits for the first 12 {giRlFriEnDs} to come in and make one.  Cost for the workshop is just $20.00.

If you don't believe in magic just call and we will hold your kit for you to put together without any worries....but either let us know or come in early before

{creative} chaos!

Saturday was a creatively busy day at girlfriends!  Critch and Andrea (two of our more fearless members of the design team) taught an awsome class at the shop!

We made our HOme MesSaGe BoaRdS!

This was one of those rare classes where the student is the master of their creation.  I say that because everyone had to pick out their own papers, embellishments and colors as part of the class.  We usually have a more concrete idea of where a project is going but for this project "the sisters" chose to have everyone be self-determining.  It is no surprise to Lisa and me that everyone chose Graphic 45 for at least part of their papers.  Such beautiful papers from such a great company. 

 The beauty of this project was that there was not a stinker in the bunch and I mean that!  Every single message board turned out beautifully.

Andrea turned out to be the exacto guru!  She cut and sanded everyone's "family" while Critch kept us in stitches.  It was so much fun and for those of you who missed out on this class...I am so sorry because it was more fun than twins! 

A big shout out to Critch and Andrea for creating this project and bravely teaching it!  WooHOO!

   

    
   
   
 
  

~Oktoberfest 2009~

 

Can I just tell all of you that didn't get to come downtown for our beautiful Oktoberfest about what a great time you missed?  The weather was absolutely perfect as there was just a touch of fall in the air, (of course a major snow storm the next day) the leaves were starting to change the colors were gorgeous and the delicious smells that filled the streets couldn't have been more perfect.  We had such a great weekend and Michele got to spend lots of quality time with here sister Patty who had come to visit from California!! We had really great vendors outside our store and thanks to all of them I am very broke now!!!  Alyssa, Arianna and Sandy had the neatest jewelry and purses, Sandy and Pam set of a darling booth with great picture frames and distressed home decor, my friend Bekki came from Boise with her Tipsy pots (can't wait to get mine planted!!) and of course our longtime dear friend Terry Moon with all her wonderful gourds, pumpkins and broom grass................ all i can say is "WOW" it was great!!  We just had a great time and a super turnout!! ttfn lisa;)
 

{whooo-ters} a love story....

On Saturday Miss Melissa T. brought in her precious daughter and her entry for our altered bra contest.  It was so sweet because

#1 - I almost wet myself laughing when I saw her creation

and

#2 her 4 year old daughter was so proud that she had helped her mom make

WHOO-TERS!

Melissa is teaching her little one to love herself and others by teaching her to give of her time and talents for a larger cause! 

Breast Cancer kills ladies.  It doesn't care how young or old we are it kills.  We love our girlfriends and our daughters and our mothers and ourselves enough to want to stop this murdering disease in its tracks.  Join us!
